This Week’s Service:

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

PRELUDE    “O, Jesus I Have Promised”                    arr. Whitworth

*CALL TO WORSHIP

The Lord is our dwelling place,

a home of peace and plenty.

The Lord is our dwelling place,

a refuge when trouble is near.

The Lord is our dwelling place,

a temple that will stand forever.

Let us worship God!

*OPENING PRAYER

(And all God’s people said:) Amen.

*HYMN      “Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above”                       # 645

1 Sing praise to God who reigns above,
the God of all creation,
the God of power, the God of love,
the God of our salvation.
With healing balm my soul is filled,
and every faithless murmur stilled:
to God all praise and glory!

2 What God’s almighty power has made
God’s gracious mercy keepeth;
by morning glow or evening shade
God’s watchful eye ne’er sleepeth.
Within the kingdom of God’s might,
lo! all is just and all is right:
to God all praise and glory!

3 The Lord is never far away,
but, through all grief distressing,
an ever-present help and stay,
our peace and joy and blessing,
as with a mother’s tender hand
God gently leads the chosen band:
to God all praise and glory!

4 Thus all my toilsome way along
I sing aloud thy praises,
that all may hear the grateful song
my voice unwearied raises.
Be joyful in the Lord, my heart;
both soul and body, take your part:
to God all praise and glory!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Lord Jesus Christ, you know our sin. We want you to do whatever we ask of you, but we are unwilling to do what you ask of us. We want to sit beside you in your glory, but we fail to stand beside you in your suffering. We want to be first in your great kingdom, but we are among the last to serve the least. Forgive us. Pour out your mercy upon us and wash us clean in your saving grace. All this we ask in your holy name.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Hear the promise of the Lord: Those who love me, I will deliver. When you call me, I will answer. I will rescue you from danger and show you my salvation. Believe this good news:  In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

Thanks be to God.

*APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost; Born of the Virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate; Was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into Hell; The third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven; And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy catholic church, the communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen.

*HYMN          “Come! Live in the Light”                                        # 749

1 Come! Live in the light!
Shine with the joy and the love of the Lord!
We are called
to be light for the kingdom,
to live in the freedom
of the city of God.

Refrain:
We are called to act with justice;
we are called to love tenderly;
we are called to serve one another,
to walk humbly with God.

2 Come! Open your heart!
Show your mercy to all those in fear!
We are called
to be hope for the hopeless
so hatred and violence
will be no more. (Refrain)

3 Sing! Sing a new song!
Sing of that great day when all will be one!
God will reign,
and we’ll walk with each other
as sisters and brothers
united in love. (Refrain)

INVITATION TO THE OFFERING AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION

Holy God, we give you thanks for all your gifts of goodness and grace. Receive these gifts from our hands as a sacrifice of praise to you and teach us to honor you each day by our obedience to your will; through Christ our Lord we pray.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

(And all God’s people said:) Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.  Amen.

*HYMN            “You Who Dwell in the Shelter of the Lord”               # 43

1 You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord,
who abide in his shadow for life,
say to the Lord, “My refuge,
my rock in whom I trust!”

Refrain:
And he will raise you up on eagles’ wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of his hand.

2 The snare of the fowler will never capture you,
and famine will bring you no fear:
under his wings, your refuge,
his faithfulness your shield.
(Refrain)

3 You need not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day;
though thousands fall about you,
near you it shall not come.
(Refrain)

4 For to his angels he’s given a command
to guard you in all of your ways;
upon their hands they will bear you up,
lest you dash your foot against a stone.
